Are the waves moving? If so, its trying to tell you low fluid. I think that's how that works. This would happen to me when my 90 had a slow coolant leak. The fluid level in the tank changes with the temp of the engine, therefore when it dips below the minimum it will trip the light. When the coolant expands again the level goes back up. Try checking the level right when the warning goes off.
