So, yesterday I meet with Jim Diffendall, technical field rep for my area. We go to my neighborhood and reproduce the problem several times, with Mr. Diffendall taking exhaustive notes and us trying different Tiptronic settings.
Also addressed the "sticking in D2" issue mentioned previously in forum; there's a Transmission Control Module (TCM) update for that. Basically, it's part of the hill braking feature that comes on when it's not supposed to.
Our theory on the ESC issue is that the sensors/computer sense a slight bit of wheelslip as the rears come off the speed bump and as I slightly nudge the throttle. We can't get wheel sensor data under 15mph, so we can't visually confirm, but it seems to make the most sense. The thought is, there isn't so much something wrong with my car, but my car just hits the "sweet spot" on the conditions required to produce the ESC activation, whereas the dealer's loaner didn't. Different Engine Control Module (ECM) software? Maybe. Sensors slightly different, yet within tolerances? Maybe. Could even be the tires.
Not really what I wanted to hear - I would have preferred a resolution. At this point, though, there just might not be one. What Mr. Diffendall did do, though, is update the ECM and TCM.
Unfortunately, after last night, the TCM seems to be non-responsive. The lighted indicator in the center console: not indicating. The indicator in the instrument cluster (e.g. P, D1, M1, etc.): blank. Moving the gear selector has no effect. Too late for a loaner, was sent home w/o a car.
Better luck today?
