Wheel spacers and scrub radius?

So I am trying to figure out if a set of wheels (and tires) I have will work with my '01 Avant. I am worried about this scrub radius thing. If I understand it correctly, the best result is found when the scrub radius does not change.

Existing A6 wheel 7Jx16H2 ET45 (with 205/55 R16)
Possible replacement 7.5Jx17H2 ET56 (with 225/45 R17)

Assumption: nearly identical diameter tires when mounted.

Factory wheel offset is 45 and the new wheel is 56, so I simply need a 11mm spacer to preserve scrub radius?

Yes, the replacement is wider by 20mm, so I would have to check for any interference.

This simplification only works because the diameters are so close to each other (1.5mm radius difference), yes?

I could just be off my rocker. Getting old, you know.
