I have the tools and the ability to change it out...I know I would do it...but I've driven this car for 11 years and recently I bought another German wagon (yea..325xi) car to replace my beloved avant. I just only wanted to get a perspective on lifespan based on usage for the alternator in these AUDI cars. In the Volvo's, 25 years ago, I replaced the regulators instead of the whole alternator...Volvo's were a lot easier to work on.
