That's the Red Lubeguard I use, have used for many years. No idea if it does anything...

The valve body wear in the 2001 at 165K was a lot less than the wear I found when I bought my 2003 S8 at 106K, but the S8 has gonzo gears and shifts a lot, plus maybe it sat in traffic a lot or something that caused a lot of dithering in the main pressure control valve. I also drive my A8 around in D4 (D3 for a couple miles when it's dead cold) unless I am on the highway to reduce shifts and that might help.

In your case I would not spend the money on the fluid unless you also do the TransGo valve and if you get in there and find some hook in the far reaches of that valve bore then buy a new lower valve body ($300) or get the Sonnax valve job and return the TransGo (I would do the former myself). If the main valve sticks and you get a freewheel-bang there is a good chance something will break in the trans.
