Advanced Tip Techniques

Hello all,
It's been a while, and I have been wanting to ask this to tap into the collective wisdom on here. I use Tip a lot in my driving (2003 S8)--given the current mileage (kilometrage?) on my beast (231k), I want to make sure my trranny lasts as long as possible. I find that, at lower revs (around 2k), the revs wander a bit while in gear (wavering by 100 or 200 rpm), so I find that using Tip allows me to keep in a lower gear by intent, and not let the tranny shift automatcially. By the way, I am getting a second tranny flush since about 120k.

My question--when you downshift, i.e. 3rd to 2nd, is it easier on the mechanical parts to "assist" the transition by slighgtly revving the engine? Similar to double de-clutching to match revs for seamless downshifts....not sure if I would cause more damage doing this than just letting the engine/trans match revs of the lower gear.
Any thoughts out there? Any other advice about how to make the tranny last? Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Steve
