Can there be pressure without compression?
I think not. But perhaps it's all perspective. I know the kids with straws in their sodas don't even start to consider the miles of air above pushing the sweet tasting liquid into their mouths.

Any ideas on the maximum amount of compression an automotive water pump impeller can impart to a volume of water?

Or is it only momentum that the pump can provide? Motion, constrained, displayed as pressure. A measure of collision frequency and velocity.

Very much an "intensity " evaluation. ;-)
