Given that the 04-06 D3 cars used much the same engine as ours, I would suspect that a swap would be PHYSICALLY possible, although you may need to make custom mounts, figure out something weird with axles and propshaft, etc. Then you'd have the issues revolving around programming, and while you may be able to swap in a D3 TCU and call it a day, I strongly doubt it would be that straightforward. In your shoes, or indeed in my own, I would do a manual swap if you were interested in replacing the transmission only once more. The 6HP swap would be a major upgrade, but could easily end up costing more than that $5500 dealer reman box. If you want to stay automatic and get a better unit, just talk to Tozo and plan the trip to Chicago while you still have a few shifts left in the old 5HP.
