has grown on me after entering the B7 world.

Good point on a D2 S8 as well from an insurance perspective. When searching for my new car it was between D2 S8 or D3 A8. Insurance was over double for the D3 A8 than D2 S8 for the same coverage. D3 2006 A8 was actually 50% more than a B8 2012 S4 too... just crazy.
