From my experience with older cars that have never had the brake fluid changed, when you're bleeding the brakes you shouldn't push the pedal right to the floor, as there may be corrosion in the master cylinder bore where the seals have never travelled and that damages the seals and the cylinder starts leaking internally, leaving a squishy pedal.
