I should say "one best practice".

I would solvent wash all of the old oil out, pack it with sand, and then use an oxy torch to put the bends in that you want.

By oxy torch, I mean something way hotter than a typical butane blowtorch, and hopefully with oxygen. Mapp may cut it, but probably not.
