but would be less of a PITA to just grab another new one and install. Can't have two in a row bad right?!? lol

It is currently a Leviton so I am surprised if it is bad, but can't think of anything else that would cause the scenario.. outlet has worked fine for several months including a counter top microwave used on it. Plug tester shows wired right and all other outlets in the series wired right as well.

Thanks for the advice all and I'll update when I swap it out tonight or tomorrow.
