Take this for what you will, but you need to consider that you are allowing secondary concerns to impact the main spacial and functional requirements of your design.

Gription is absolutely correct that natural light is of paramount importance. I would value windows over fancier recessed lights 10/10 times. And I'd certainly let a door stay open against a countertop some of the time rather than give up a kitchen sink and window overlooking the back yard.
