measurement - combined with the variation of the width of the pencil line itself. As long as the hook on the end of the tape measure(s) moves the correct amount, most measurements performed with a tape measure will be "close enough". I wouldn't classify woodworking as a format that requires precision beyond resolving to the nearest 1/32" or perhaps 1/64" (under 4 sheets of standard copy paper) for the most exacting of cabinetmakers. Framing carpenters - heck - if they are within 1/4" consider yourself lucky.
