Got nailed by a radar gun in Croatia...

...84kph in a 50kph zone outside of town or built-up area.
Cop on a motorbike hiding behind the bushes past a sharp curve.

Usual speed limit in such areas is 80kph, but because of endless curves, it's often times reduced to 50 or 60 or 70kph.
If you refuse to pay the fine on the spot, the cost is about CDN$550 for exceeding the limit by 30kph.
If you pay on the spot, the fine is reduced to one-half...that's the law.

So, after a lengthy debate with the cop..."the 50kph is for trucks so they don't flip, cars can go faster"..."where was the traffic sign that the previous limit ended, and the new limit began?" (which, btw is the proper way for road signs in Europe),..."etc., etc., etc.,...the cop decides to reduce the fine to about 250 Kuna (Croatian currency; about $50).
So, I check my wallet, and I have 3 one hundred Kuna bills, and a 500 Kuna bill.
What now?!
"I can't give you change", says the cop.
"Can you fine me 300 Kuna?", I said.
"No, it has to be 250 Kuna", says the cop, "that's the law".
"Do you take Visa credit card?", I said.
"Nope, I don't have the machine on my bike", cop replies.
"Well, the banks are closed in nearby towns [was after 3pm, and the banks here close at 3pm], so what do we do now?", I asked.
"Ummm, hmmm, I'll let you go for now. Off you go", replies the cop.
"Bye, see you around".

So, the story ends...

...back to my Dalmatian pršut for dinner.
Bon appetit.
