The M4 had more carbon fiber and other weight saving parts. The M2 had to cut cost somewhere. And even though it is shorter, it is almost as wide as a 3. It's bigger than I expected. It is nimble but visually, you are still aware that it is not a small car. (This could be due to me switching from the Elise)

The suspension is fine IMO. I head to the track about the same as you, and I don't think I'll need to upgrade to coilovers. Most reviews complain that they are too harsh to begin with. I had adjustable bilsteins on Lotus and never really tinkered with it anyways. I'm not racing for time, so I just want something reliable and drive-able as a DD. And the M2 shocks are more comfortable than even the Abarth that I had.
