lets say this is your first AR style rifle, just for fun... go find a .223 you like at a reasonable price and buy 1000 or 2000 rounds of ammo. shoot it and learn about it, set up a decent optics package and have fun at a 100 yards.

if you want to get into longer range stuff later great, the $1000 bucks you spend now will save you money on the learning curve.
