Another area to watch, adding to Ed's list, are the seals since the car was sitting for several years.

A few years ago I looked into purchasing a Maserati Ghibli that was the Genf show car from the late 1960s. The car was striking and the price seemed very reasonable; however, all the seals on the engine needed replacement since the car sat for over a decade in a climate controlled garage. Most of the seals, not including the replacement labor costs, exceeded the price of the car. There were a couple of parts that were not available in NOS and would need to be custom fabricated.

I now look at the current Maserati Ghibli prices and really wonder what is the support for those exorbitant prices...
