I used to drop the car off to get inspected, pick it up later, and it was just a flat inspection fee. And when we did title/registration, AAA took care of us... that being said, where I began to appreciate the VA DMV process is when it came to actually buying the car, where we no longer need to get a mechanic to verify the VIN on the stupid car (even when you own it), etc. etc. etc.

They all have their plusses and minusses I guess... and they do get you one way or another. Inspection/emissions/insurance is cheaper, but the PPT gets you if you like newer/more valuable cars than a pinto :-P
