Check whether your electric cooling fan stopped working. I had that happen on my MK1 TT many years ago on the track when I pulled into the pits and coolant boiled over. Realized the electric fan stopped working; I had VAG-COM hooked up the whole drive home (~260 miles) monitoring coolant temps. As long as the car was moving the temp were good but in traffic it would start to creep up.

We most definitely need to talk next time around - I love VR6 motors :)
