are not only very usable but holds its own against my full frame bodies: D810 and the current low light king Sony A7S II.

12800 gets real noisy but not in a terrible way, and not an issue since I even try to avoid 12800 and beyond on my FF bodies.

The important part is that the D500 has great dynamic range and one of the cleanest high ISO images I've seen from a crop sensor, that it even rivals other full frame bodies out there (like the 5D3). The low light AF is what impresses the most because it's noticeably better than any of my full frame cameras from Nikon and Sony. You'd have to go with a D5 to get better AF performance than the D500.
