The 1996 and 1997 front faces of the A4 will swap over IF the plug is "clocked" properly. There's a notch on the plug that I've seen go both ways. 1 out of 10 times or so it's backwards. The 1998 and 1999 uses a climate control that is LED lit. This will never work. The brain portion of the newer boxes can't be re programmed either. You can re program the early boxes but some have reported that they still don't operate the system with a recode. So count on only using the faces in a best case scenario.

You can tell an early A4 display from a late one by just looking at it. The late ones have all white front buttons.
