Quick and dirty hints on headliner board removal

1. Remove the sunroof control panel:Click

2. Remove all the grab handles (not the 3 ways go in the back unless you have installed 3 ways in the front as well) (don't lose the plastic screw covers):Click

3. Remove the sunvisors:Click (the big hint is at the end of that one)

4. Remove the A,B and C pillars in a sedan and the A,B,C, and D pillars in an avant: Click

5. Remove the clips that hold the metal sunroof frame to the headliner board. Click

6. Remove the hatch cargo light for an avant: Click

7. Remove the cross piece of trim for an avant (I've added a note in the D-pillar removal post on that trim item). For a sedan, check for the possibility of three clips at the rear edge of the headliner board.

8. Gently peel the headliner board down from the rear side in a sedan or the hatch opening in an avant. If you found three clips on a sedan headliner you will need to pull the headliner ahead at some point to clear the clips. The headliner is glued to the metal so it will need some encouragement. I used a 4" wide plastic dry mud knife taped to a paint stir stick to give this "encouragement"

9. For an avant the headliner will come out the back with the hatch open. For a sedan you need to move the front passenger seat fully forward and then lay the front passenger seat back down flat(ish). Then gently man-handle the liner board out the right rear door. Try to not bend the board to the point it breaks. Some people have removed front seats entirely to successfully remove the sedan headliner board.

Hope that works for now. Improvements might come. Constructive comments welcomed.
