Your Garret is a ball-bearing turbo though, and I know they have less axial play by design (no thrust washer in them as the BB's do the job) as opposed to the journal type. Not saying it exonerates my turbo.

The oil on the dipstick was a little dirty, but didn't have any sparkles.

Sounds like we're in the same boat, I'm hoping it lasts until May when I (should) have my XJS and I can drive that in the summer.
