I found I needed to used a better grade scotch lock for it to work using that method. Connection was finicky with supplied ones.

That said, I think on the TT I soldered it in because of how little space there is in behind there. With my b5, plenty of room.

I believe a bad connection will result in it being in learning mode if memory serves.
