maximum quality doesn't have to be just vinyl.

hi-res digital is the new king. CD quality resolution sounds better than actual redbook CDs... and you only go up from there. Artists are starting to slowly offer their music in hi-res.. either at CD quality, SACD quality or even master file 24/192. NIN does this, you can go to NINs website and download hi-res FLAC files.

What you do is have your stuff out there wherever... but have your own website and offer hi-res downloads there. Make sure your myspace, facebook etc etc etc etc all point to the website and make it known hi-res is available.

The other end of that is the mastering. Even vinyl or master files can sound like crap if they're mastered that way. I've got plain old redbook CDs that blow away a good bit of vinyl because of the way they were recorded and mastered. Maximum compression for loudness, etc... it all kills the music.

don't kill the music!
